A short resumé of the artistes that have performed in Unifaun Theater's productions.

Directors:

Michael FenechMichael Fenech
Michael Fenech

Michael has been involved in theatre and TV since 1979. He wrote and directed parts of the cult TV satire Aħn’aħna jew m’aħniex? In 1981 he was co-founder of Ateatru, an experimental/political theatre group. He directed numerous theatre pieces for Ateatru and other theatre groups, including La Logique and Lqugħ għad-dawl by Alfred Buttiġieġ. In 1982 he directed Marat/Sade by Peter Weiss, and also dressed up as one of the nun warders (illegal and punishable by up to one year in prison according to our blasphemy laws). Among other plays he directed Exit the King by Eugene Ionesco, L-Opra tat-Tlitt Ħabbiet by Bertholt Brecht, Auschwitz by Peter Barnes, Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry, and Ir-Rewwixta tal-Qassisin by Alfred Buttiġieġ, The Second Coming of Joan of Arc by Caroline Cage, Not I, Ohio Impromptu, Rockaby, and Catastrophe by Samuel Beckett. For a time he was a drama tutor at the Manoel Theatre Academy of Dramatic Art teaching script writing. He has also adapted and directed Franz Kafka’s novel Metamorfożi. He co-wrote (with Joe Azzopardi) and directed Hawniċ- Ċirku. Among theatre works he has written and directed specifically for children are Iċ-Ċirku Monda and It-Torok f’Malta fi Żmien D’Omedes, as well as the first series of children’s programmes Owkej! and Dinu. Michael is also a founder member and artistic director of Kneeplays Youth Theatre for whom he wrote and directed Nanżi. He has produced numerous plays including Il-Kertejker by Harold Pinter directed by Ġużi Gatt, and Ippermettili Nitlaq by Alfred Buttiġieġ directed by Immanuel Mifsud. He has produced, co-authored and directed the Festival of Satire Bla Kondixin since its inception in 2001.

Polly March

Polly was born in Malta, and trained at Guildhall.

She has worked expensively in rep, playing everything from Hermia and Mrs. Malaprop, to Mrs. Thatcher and a parrot. She created the role of Mrs. Beaver in the West End production of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and also played it for the BBC. So, a varied career…

Two of her solo shows have won Fringe Firsts at Edinburgh; ‘Beauty and The Bounders’ about the life and work of Lilian Baylis of the Old Vic was also adapted as a BBC radio play, and she was appointed Artist in Residence to New York University, performing the play and leading workshops. She does a great deal of audio work, and was the first ever Tinkerbell to speak, in the BBC radio version of Peter Pan….

Polly has been living in Malta for the last two years, and has directed Laughing Wild , and appeared in Steel Magnolias, both for the MADC.

She has just been playing Ms Darbus in High School Musical, and can be seen again as Edith, in ‘Allo Allo’. She will be directing the annual Shakespeare later this year; an all female ‘Two Gentlemen of Verona’, set in the 80’s!

Dave Barton

Dave Barton is the co-founder and Co-Artistic Director of Rude Guerrilla Theater Company, holding the position for more than a decade. Dave directed over 45 plays and has won a number of theater awards, including Best Director for his production of Some explicit polaroids. He has the singular distinction of having directed more of playwright Mark Ravenhill’s work than anyone in the world and was a Guest Lecturer at the Ravenhill 10 conference at Goldsmiths University, London, in 2006. He will be lecturing at the University of Manchester in November and is reviving his critically-acclaimed production of Shopping & fucking at The Onyx Theatre in Las Vegas in 2009.

Dave has written theatrical adaptations of John Ford’s ‘tis pity she’s a whore, Thomas Middleton’s The revenger’s tragedy, William Shakespeare’s The taming of the shrew, Mark Twain’s The war prayer and Maxim Gorky’s The lower depths, as well as several original plays: In the house of the lord, Dick and Jane smoke crack, What is the word…with apologies to Samuel Beckett, God rest ye merry gentlemen, Crushed, Viva la revolution. He has also written several screenplays, including Pity, Neighborhood watch, Blood and roses, The sins of the fathers, Pity and Snuff. He directed and is currently editing his first full-length feature, Snuff, and is readying Sarah Schulman’s The child for its World Premiere at Rude Guerrilla in 2009.

Chris Gatt

Chris Gatt has been inflicting himself on the theatre scene for almost a quarter century. Having fi rst trod the boards in 1982, he decided to give theatre audiences a break and moved to directing. He has directed some of the best local productions, a fair amount of which, for Unifaun Theatre. He is currently General Manager and Artistic Director of St James Cavalier– Centre for Creativity and Arts.

Marcelle TeumaMarcelle Teuma
Marcelle Teuma

Marcelle Teuma has been involved in Theatre for the past 23 years. She has a diploma in acting from MTADA and a certificate from the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art (London, 1990). She has also a degree in Theatre Studies and Philosophy and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (specializing in Theatre) from the University of Malta. In the early 90s she co-founded an experimental theatre group and performed orginal Maltese texts which were also presented in the Mediterranean Biennial Festival for Experimental Theatre held in Malta in 1990 and 1993. She was also a tutor at the Mikelanġ Borġ Drama Centre between 1995 and 2003 where she directed various classical texts and written original ones developed through work in progress with the Senior Students of the school. She is also a member of the central coordinating team of Inizjamed. Since 2005 she has also been tutoring University B.ed Students in Theatre in Education projects. In these last years she has directed and took part as narrator in Solitudni fil-Belt which was presented in the International Festival Europamusicale in Berlin, Leipzig and Wiesbaden. It was presented again at the Manoel Theatre on the November 16, 2004. She directed Peter Weiss’ Marat Sade, Ċimiterji – a work in progress presented for Supa at the MITP, an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Nightingale, and L-Interdett Taħt is-Sodda original script written by Clare Azzopardi and produced by Teatrutramm and Inizjamed in November 2006 at St. James Cavalier.

Nanette Brimmer

Nanette Brimmer has participated mostly in comedies such as “Move Over Mrs. Markham”, “Don't Just Lie There…”, “Run For Your Wife”, “Bedroom Farce”, “Flat Spin”, “A Small Family Business”, etc. She has over gained 30 years' experience through working with major theatre groups in Malta, namely MADC, Atturi Theatre Group, Masquerade, Maleth, etc. She can also be credited with a few 'more serious' roles in straight plays, among which are 'Karen' in “T he Anniversary”, 'Dorine' in Moliere's “Tartuffe” and 'Maria' in Shakespeare's “Twelfth Night”. Her piece de-resistence was the sprightly “Puck” in Joe Friggieri's direction of “A Midsummer's Night Dream” when she was aged 46!!

Apart from these roles, she has participated in various MADC musicals: as 'Tzietel' in “Fiddler on the Roof ”, as 'Gymnasia' in “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” a street urchin in “The Little Shop of Horrors”, “Oliver”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” and “Kiss Me Kate”. Nanette is probably best remembered as the Principal Boy in numerous Pantomimes.

Narcy Calamatta

Calamatta is a theatre, film, television and radio veteran. He is a playwright, set designer, director, actor, mime and cultural organiser. He has acted in English, Maltese and Italian.

He was principal at MTADA. In 2008 he was voted the Best Supporting Actor at the Malta TV Awards ceremony.

Manuel Cauchi has been treading the boards for the last thirty years in a wide spectrum of lead roles ranging from the classics to the modern idiom. He has also been involved in television drama both locally and abroad together with a number of roles in various international films.

His recent roles include Sade in Marat/Sade , Michael in Frank McGuinness’ “Someone who’ll Watch over Me”, Tupolski in Martin MacDonagh’s “The Pillowman”, Paul in the Howard Brenton play “Paul”, Martin in Edward Albee’s “The Goat”, Oberon / Theseus in “A Midsummer-Nights Dream , Caravaggio in Joe Friggieri”s “L-Inkjesta” , Theophilus in Alejandro Amenabar’s film “Agora” and Ray in David Harrower’s “Blackbird”

Andrew Galea

Following his impressive debut in a major role, playing the SOLDIER in BLASTED, Andrew immediately returns to the Unifaun fold to undertake a more comic role. Andrew attended Masquerade Theatre Arts School for several years, during which time he performed in various in-house productions including Tin-Pan Ali at the Manoel Theatre. He is currently reading for a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Malta. Unifaun Theatre Productions sincerely hope that this exceptionally talented young lad will become a mainstay at their productions.

Angele Galea’s (nee Cauchi) theatrical roles include Curio in ‘Twelfth Night’, Ceres in ‘The Tempest’, Liat in ‘South Pacific’, Miss Ames in ‘A Chorus of Disapproval’, Dandina in the pantomime ‘Cinderella’, ‘Honey’ in ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’, various characters in “Alarms and Excursions” and a distraught mother in “Ippermettili Nitlaq”.

She was Wench 1 in “The Real Pirates of the Caribbean”, Hooker 2 in “Man of East”, got beaten up as Nerio’s mother in the French film “Largo Winch”, played Charition in the film “Agora”, starring Rachel Weiss and “Woman with short swimsuit” in Jaws 1916 Savage Shore, a Discovery Channel film.

On television, she played Lorna Debono in the teleseries ‘Viva l-Ministru’, and Stef Gauci in the sitcom ‘L-Erbgha l’Huma’ where she was nominated for Best Lead Actress on a Comedy Series (2006) and she has also presented several TV programmes, including ‘Bottegin’, ‘Artenium’, and ‘Kerser Kwizz’ which won the BA award for Best Children’s Programme in 2002. She presented ‘Showtime’, a variety show in 2007/2008.

Malcolm Galea

Some of Malcolm Galea’s favourite theatre credits include Cliff Bradshaw in Cabaret, Guy Jones in A Chorus of Disapproval, Albert in Ħitan, Bassanio in The Merchant of Venice, Andrew Aguecheek in Twelfth Night, Dave Shepherd in Audacity, the Narrator in The Rocky Horror Show and Father Flynn in Doubt.

Malcolm also played Dame Frida in the MADC pantomime Cinderella, as well starring in the comedy duologue Snubbed Actors Inc. – plays which were also written by Malcolm. Other theatre writing credits include the Masquerade musical 1565, The Play with the Silly Name which won the award for Best Production at the MADC One Acts Play Festival in 2003, and the Masquerade pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk which was staged at the Manoel Theatre last month.

In film, Malcolm portrayed such roles as Sinon in Helen of Troy (Universal), St Andrew in The Miracles of Jesus (BBC), and Carlo in the Polish crime series Kryminalni. His characters on local TV include Henry Seguna in Viva l-Ministru, Edward on It-Tmien Nota, and Ray Gauci in the sitcom L-Erbgħa l’Huma which Malcolm also wrote and directed.

Malcolm’s future projects include his original musical Porn which he will be staging at the MITP next month. He currently hosts the Breakfast Show on Xfm as part of the Morning Crew and co-presents Homeworks TV on TVM.

Alan has been treading the boards for a number of years now, playing a variety of roles in Theatre, TV and Film.

Past theatre performances include various roles in Four Play, Macduff in Macbeth, Graeves in God’s Official, Dr Dysart in Equus, David in the Sondheim Musical ‘Company’, Mitch in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’, Master Ford in ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’, Edward, the Irishman, in ‘Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me’, Ariel in ‘The Pillowman’, all of 7 parts in ‘Stones in his Pockets’, Tom in ‘A Perfect Wedding’, Amos in ‘Chicago’, Bishop in ‘Fat Men in Skirts’, Brindsley in ‘Black Comedy’, Adrian in ‘Private Eyes’, Mr Mushnik in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’, Duke Orsino in ‘Twelfth Night’, Henry in ‘The Real Thing’, Jack in ‘Charlie’s Aunt’ and Ross in ‘Macbeth.

Alan has also appeared in various films and played parts in Local television dramas.

Edward is well known locally for his various roles in Panto, Shakespeare, comedies as well as more dramatic productions.

Recent credits include, Charlie in Seascape, Lockhart in Gasping, Ross in The Goat, Bottom in A Midsummer’s Night Dream, The Landlord in Two, Various characters in Agamemnon, Charlie Conlon in Stones In His Pockets and the Bear in Chekhov’s The Bear. Edward also runs the Stagecoach Theatre Arts Schools franchise as well as FM Theatre Productions, a company which has a string of theatrical successes to its name including, Chicago, Side By Side By Sondheim, The Vagina Monologues, A Slice of Saturday Night and Stones in His Pockets, Seascape and High School Musical.

Emily Jones has taken part in many local productions. Her appearances on the Manoel Theatre stage include: Seussical the musical as Gertrude(for Masquerade), West side story as Maria (for Drama Troupe), Steel Magnolias as Shelby, and the pantomimes Sleeping Beauty and Pirates of the Mediterranean (MADC).

Emily is currently reading for a Bachelor of Communications degree at the University of Malta, and receives vocal training under the tuition of Gillian Zammit. This is her first experience in a Unifaun production.

Marie-Claire Pellegrini

1994: At age 11, took part in an operetta, written by Fr. Peter Serracino-Inglott, directed by Vicky Cremona and played the supporting role of a young lost girl looking for help from a priest. The performance took place at St.John's Cathedral in Valletta.

2002: At age 19, played the supporting role of Beatrice in a performance entitled "You May Snog the Bride" which took place at St.James Cavalier centre for creativity with Holmium Theatre, written and directed by David Darmanin.

2005: Attended acting classes animated by Irene Christ as part of Acting House productions which lasted 2 months.

…and of course every school play imaginable from the age of 5!!

Michael Zammit Maempel

Michael has played Lysander in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Doctor Caius in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Tranio in The Taming of The Shrew, Lorenzo in The Merchant of Venice, Ian in An Evening With Gary Lineker, Philip in Audacity, apart from 6 pantos and an assorted number of musicals for MADC. Michael also holds the MADC One Act Play Festival awards for Most Promising Actor (1996) and Best Director (2004), and has most recently debuted in his role as a director with Steel Magnolias at the Manoel Theatre in 2007. Michael doesn’t feel it’s worthwhile to add what he does for a living because it usually means having to sit and listen to a stream of nasty lawyer jokes.

Aldo trained as an actor with Lemonhead Productions. He acted in a number of theatre productions including the most recent Manifest tal-Killer (Lemonhead) as well as several other productions including Madam X (B.S. Productions), Meta Jintefa d-Dawl (Curtain Call) and The Bacchae (Drama Centre & I.N.D.A.).

Ruth Zammit has loved the stage for as long as she can remember taking part in various small productions. She was a participant on the second edition of the TV programme l-Isfida, from then on participating in the MADC 2007 One Act Play Festival were she was nominated for best upcoming actress. She also took part in last christmas's MADC panto The Remarkable voyage of Sinbad (the Taylor).

Philip Stilon

Philip Stilon has been very active in the theatrical scene for over twelve years. He trained at the Webber Douglas Academy for Dramatic Arts, London and in 1988 won the Best Actor Award in MADC's One-Act Play Competition. Some of his most memorable roles include Benedict Hough in 'A Small Family Business', 'Hysteriumin' A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum', Garry Lejeune in 'Noises Off' , Dr Herbert Rosenthalm 'Nuts', Crabtree in 'The School for Scandal' , Seymour Krelborn in 'Little Shop of Horrors', Mercutio in 'Romeo & Juliet', Sebastian in 'Twelfth Night' and DoqberryIn 'Much Ado About Nothing'. He also played various characters in Christmas pantomimes and other musicals.

Mario 'Snits' Spiteri

Snits has been in the acting field since he was 10 years old. He played diverse roles but has always preferred comedy and mime! His debut was at the Salesians Oratory performing in a one act play and from then on he has never looked back. He took part in various plays, musicals, panto, television programmes and commercials as well as teleseries and big screen – as a fire-thrower…a real one! This is the fourth appearance with Unifaun after being casted in “Paul” and “Minn wara zzipp” (March and November 2008).

Bryan Jennings

Bryan Jennings is a professional actor who hails from Cailfornia. He has acted in numerous productions for Rude Guerrilla Theater Company, which he joined in 1999. Amongst the numerous plays he acted in, one finds Pale Horse (Joe Penhall) for which he won BSW/Garland Award 2007 for his performance in a leading role. He also played to great acclaim, roles in plays like Blasted, Cleansed, The Cut, Some Explicit Polaroids, Sleeping Around and Corpus Christi.

His acting experience extends to film and television having played significant roles in both. He is the co-owner and founder of Bryton Films Inc, which has just wrapped its first movie, SNUFF, which should be released in 2009.

Away from theatre, Bryan is a very athletic person, having been a soccer pro in his heyday.

Jo Caruana

Jo Caruana trained locally at Stagecoach Theatre Arts School before continuing her studies in Edinburgh at Queen Margaret's University where she gained a degree in Drama and Arts Journalism. Local credits todate include Dorothy in The Wiz (FM Theatre), Penelope in Hercules: The Panto, Bella in Losing Louis and Ariel in Pirates of the Mediterranean (all for MADC). She made her Unifaun debut last year as Jill in Equus - which she thought was the most nerve wracking life could get… until she read Blasted. She would like to thank Chris Gatt, Polly March and Lizzie Eldrige for their help and guidance toward this performance, and her family for closing yet another blind eye to her madness. Jo works as a magazine coordinator, writer and drama teacher.

Jean Pierre Busuttil

JP kicked off his acting career with participations in the Students' Festivals both at New Lyceum and at University.  After that he joined MASK, a theatre company based at the Catholic Institute and later joined MADC.  He participated in numerous pantomimes, including his role as Dame Lola, and in many musicals.  He also trod the boards in straight plays and in Shakespeare plays.  Always active, he has recently enjoyed roles on different TVserials and also finding time to attend Voice Coaching sessions with Gillian Zammit.

Renato Dimech

Renato began acting when he was 15 years old and for the last thirty two years he has never looked back. He graduated from MTADA and since then has taken part in countless productions of varied genres, with as many companies. He has done Shakespeares, Pantos, musicals and taken part in traditional, abstract, street and Greek theatre all in Maltese as well as in English. Renato has also has directed for MADC, at the Manoel and for TVM. He has done voice-overs for puppet shows and taken part in various television adverts as well as local cinema productions. He has sung in Voices and other choirs and also written scripts for and taken part in local radio programmes. He has also danced in several YADA productions and interpreted several main parts in teleserials on various local TV stations. It is very clear that from the get-go, Renato was and still is hooked, good and proper.

Irene Christ

Irene Christ trained acting in Germany. Engagement at various prestigious theatres, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Duesseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Volksbuehne Berlin, Staatstheater Kassel amongst others. Recently played in New York with International WOW Company. Founded Actinghouse Productions in Malta in 2002 (co-producer Julian Manduca), produced and acted in plays like ‘The Open Couple’ (Fo, Rame), ‘The Lady from the Sea’ (Ibsen), ‘Fat Men in Skirts’ (Silver), Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’ (Albee), ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ (Williams) and others. Roles on German and Maltese TV, and with the BBC. Teaches drama. Directed ‘Tattoo’(Dea Loher).

Chris Galea

Christian Galea, aged 29, recently graduated with Masters in English Literature. He formed part of the theatre group Aleateia for six years, performing both locally and internationally. He left the group in 2006 and since then has been involved in production, choreography, audio production and script writing for different events within theatre, poetry evenings and music concerts. Toni Attard

Toni Attard graduated from the University of Malta in Communications and Theatre Studies and has completed an MSc in cultural management and policy at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. He has been performing with Aleateia Theatre Group since 1999. Recent performance projects include Agamemon with Theatre Anon and multimedia projects fusing theatre, video and music. In 2006 he won Best Director and Best Production in the madc One Act Play Festival with 4:48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane. In 2007 he directed The Magic Flute, the first opera for children commissioned by the Manoel Theatre. He has worked as an animator, produced and performed in a number of performances for children as well as TV appearances namely in the drama series Għada Jisbaħ Ukoll. He is also a drama tutor at Stagecoach theatre arts school and eu projects coordinator at St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity.

Jan pursued his dream of becoming a professional dancer at the tender age of 9, which made him one of the first boy dancers in the local scene at that time. His debut stage appearance was as the young Pied Piper in Era (1998). This was followed by numerous shows with yada including ‘Century ‘(1999), ‘Phantom’ (2000), ‘Dirty Dancing’ (2001), ‘Madonna’ (2002) and ‘Christus’ (2004). Jan has also performed at a number of public shows and events such as the Millennium Celebrations in Floriana (2000) and the Small Nations Games opening ceremony at Ta’ Qali (2003). In the 2005 Pantomime ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Jan played multiple roles within the chorus, and in 2006 he played the part of a monkey with a bad attitude in Masquerade’s production of ‘Seussical – The Musical’. In recent months, Jan enjoyed playing the challenging role of ‘Nugget’ in Unifaun’s production of ‘Equus’.

Mik’s interest in theatre began at the age of 8, when he joined Stagecoach Theatre Arts School. Throughout his time there he took part in various musicals, including The Wiz and Honk!. After 9 years with Stagecoach he moved onto the Drama Centre to focus entirely on acting. Mik has also appeared on screen on a few occasions for TV episodes of “Nru9” and recently in “Miskin Mike” (Lino Farrugia). Mik is proud to celebrate his decade of theatre by performing for a Unifaun Theatre production.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Barrie has always been interested in Theatre – but only started acting when he came to Malta. He appeared in school productions with the San Andrea School Drama Department and Verdala Drama Club (Sir Andrew Aguecheek in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night being the most notable) and performed Various Monologues (Salieri from Amadeus being my most notable performance). This is Barrie's first role in the Maltese theatre scene.

Lilian Pace started as a child actress mainly in radio-plays and children’s radio and school-broadcasting programmes. At 16, she took part in her first teleplay on Television Malta. Between 1980-82 Lilian followed a drama course at the Manoel Theatre Academy of Dramatic Art at the end of which she was founder-member of Actors’ Studio set up in St Luke Chapel, Tigne’. She also participated in various plays in either English or Maltese produced by MADC, Maleth, Politeatru, Talenti, and Karattri. A few of the roles Lilian has played include Agave in ‘The Bacchae’ by Euripedes; Eva Braun in ‘Summit Conference’ by Robert David Macdonald; Thelma Cates in ‘Night, Mother’ by Marsha Norman; Senora Carrar in ‘Senora Carrar’s Rifles’ by Bertolt Brecht; and as Louise Harrington in ‘Five Finger Exercise’ and as Hesther Solomon in ‘Equus’ both by Peter Shaffer. Her contribution on television is no less and her parts include roles in serials such as “Villa Sunset”, “Triq Wahda”, “Viva l-Ministru”, “Santa Monica” and the current “Gheruq”.

Colin Willis has acted in shows in Canberra, Tokyo, Buenos Aires, Geneva and now Malta. He has appeared with the MADC in several Shakespeare plays at San Anton (notably as Malvolio in Twelfth Night and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice), as well as in comedies and dramas (the paterfamilias Gerry in Time of My Life, the anguished Father in Six Characters in Search of an Author). He has also worked with Masquerade (Broken Glass, Five Kinds of Silence), Theartreworx (Memory of Water) and Maleth (Wife Begins at Forty, Caught in the Net). He has also had a fling at panto (Alison Wonderland in 2000) and musicals (Kiss Me Kate, Anything Goes, West Side Story). This is his first role with Unifaun.

Jean-Pierre Agius — I finally crept on stage at the mature age of 32..and have refused to get off ever since! My first appearance was in Masquerade’s Amadeus (2002) and subsequently, Cabaret (2003). A last minute replacement in a lead role in Harold Pinter’s One for the Road, under Adrian Buckle’s direction and which won me MADC’s Best Actor of 2003 award in the One Act Play Festival. In Noises Off (2004), I tried my hand at comedy for the first time. This was followed by the part in panto , namely; the poison-tongued Mirror in MADC’s panto, Snow White and the 7 Dwarves (2004) and furry-legged Cynergix in Hercules. Roles in Shakespeare productions have included :Sebastian in MADC’S s The Tempest (July 2003), Salerio in The Merchant of Venice (2004) and Hortensio in the 2005 production of Taming of the Shrew. In Losing Louis (2007) I got to play the part of alcoholic and bitter Tony, which required me to drink lots of whisky and smoke my first cigarette! TV work has included the main role in a comedy sitcom Kugini on Net TV, which was aired earlier this year. I’m excited to be included in the Equus cast, that Adrian and Marcelle have put together, and to be part of this fascinating play as well as performing in St James Cavalier for the first time!

Also very active in Drama at his school Matthew has participated in Drama Activities also by writing a school play himself.

Adrian is a full time Drama Teacher at the Drama Unit of Malta.  He has devised some of the Unit's best Theatre-In-Education projects on subjects such as Racism, Internet Safety and Bullying. Always with a knack for challenging theatre, he founded Unifaun in 2005 and has gone on to produce most of Malta's best productions in recent years. Although mainly a Stage Manager, he has also acted in some of his productions but his acting activity is mostly concentrated on Theatre-In-Education projects at the Drama Unit. He has also directed some plays for the MADC One-Act Festival.

Kevin Drake has been on and off the boards for nigh on 20 years, although lately more off than on. He’s played a number of bilingual roles in this time, ranging from ageing hypochondriacs to greaseball dentists to a variety of kings, queens, scumbags and anything in between. He’s also tickled his non-existent tonsils on occasion, but the less said about that, the better.

Vic is one of the founders of the theatre group aleateia and enjoys doing as much challenging stuff as possible…loves Shakespeare and Chekhov,and really enjoys working with children and young people devising workshops and projects in schools. He is looking forward to directing a children’s project for Unifaun in the coming years, and one of his best experiences was taking a group of Maltese children with a theatre piece based on the legend of San Dimitri to an international festival in Ostuni, Italy. Vic has also worked on creative workshops in a drug rehabilitation centre and describes the most exciting period of his life as when he was attending classes in Webber Douglas academy in London…at the moment we are also seeing him on net tv as part of the Sfida programme where he is one of the acting coaches. Though theatre is the oxygen Victor breathes, he is also a keen reader of science fiction and graphic novels, loves animals, art and design, Dolce and Gabbana clothes and sushi.

Mariano Said followed an acting course with Narcy Calamatta in 1997. His first break in theatre was in Romeo and Juliet Flambe which was part of Maltafest celebrations. After which he followed theatre workshops and was involved in various theatre productions. With roles in: The Elephant Man ( 1999), Faust ( 1999), As you like It (madc 2002), The Taming of the Shrew (2000), The Marriage of Figaro (2000), and various others. Most recent productions include a very good theatre experiment with Stagebreeze, Ritmatti. Mariano was involved in various tv productions like Angli, Is-Salib tal-Fidda and Delitti Maltin. At the moment Mariano is following a four year term acting workshops with Lemonhead. This is his first experience with Unifaun Theatre.

Chris attended 8 consecutive years at the Drama Unit at Blata-l Bajda. In 2002 experienced a puppet theatre festival in Germany where he performed with a group of German students. In 2003, Chris attended the 11th European Children’s Theatre Encounter in Croatia performing in streets together with children from 20 other countries. In 2004 attended and performed in Babel Theatre Festival.

In 2004 performed in the Dramafest at St. James Cavalier Theatre. Performed in the 10minutes Play Festival held at the Drama Unit. In 2005 performed in the Rewwixta tal-Qassisin at Manoel Theatre. In 2005 performed as Scrooge in a Christmas Youth Festival held in Birkirkara.

Maria Buckle has been involved in theatre since the age of 16. She trained mostly with Masquerade Theatre Arts School. She has taken part in Unifaun Theatre’s Good Doctor, as well as 2 madc pantos, namely snowhite and the 7 dwarves, and Sleeping Beauty, in which she played the part of an evil green goblin, and disturbingly, she found herself relating to the goblin completely!! She has also taken part in the madc One Act Play Festivals.

Maria ended up as a semi-finalist of TV’s L-Isfida, and has also done examinations with Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Keith hails from California where he has already performed the part of Victor in Some Explicit Polaroids in 2003 and 2005. In 2005, he was also voted one of the greatest Discoveries on Broadway by Entertainment Magazine. Keith·s theatre experience involves mainly work with Off-Broadway Company Rude Guerrilla. His credits with this company include Alan Strang in Peter Shaffer·s Equus, different roles in other Mark Ravenhill plays, such as Sleeping Around and Handbag as well as playing Bianca in Shakespeare·s The Taming Of The Shrew. Keith has also acted for cinema, portraying roles in Eleven for Mako Pictures, Pirates of Silicon Valley for USA Network and Forces Of Nature and Goober, both for Chapman College.

He is also Head of the Drama Unit in Malta and responsible for coordinating and developing Drama tuition on the island.

He joined Unifaun Theatre to resume his roles in Neil Simon's The Good Doctor, leaving his usual trademark performance. His ither roles include comic villians, saintly friars, talkative old men, crafty servants, corrupt politicians, Machiavellian Jews, tragic kings and even some monsters. Her theatre career started early in the 1960s and she has played both dramatic and comic roles in plays by Shakespeare, Brecht, Wilde, and Sartre among others. Very selective of her work, she chose to join Unifaun Theatre for The Good Doctor production.

Alex worked with Unifaun Theatre on the production of The Good Doctor, playing a variety of roles and showing unique versatile performances. Another new actress, the bulk of her work was with MADC where she commanded most principle girl roles and some Shakespeare. In 2003, she was nominated for Best Actress in the MADC One Act Competition for her role of GILA in Harold Pinter's ONE FOR THE ROAD, directed by Adrian Buckle.
